Synopsis

For over a decade, Israeli master violin maker Amnon Weinstein located and lovingly brought back to life violins that had been played by Europe's Jews during the Shoah. In this moving documentary, featuring soul-stirring performances by Maestro Shlomo Mintz, Amnon leads us from his Tel Aviv workshop and through Europe in search of these remnants of a lost cultural world. This journey, which included Vilna—his father's birthplace—ends with a concert in Jerusalem's Old City. This dramatic and moving musical evening took place in front of the ancient walls, where sixteen of the restored violins were played by international virtuosos in celebration of Israel's 60th anniversary. These "Violins of Hope" were joined by the Philharmonic Orchestra of Istanbul, Turkey and the Symphonette Orchestra of Ra'anana, Israel.

SPECIAL EVENT

After the film, enjoy a classical music performance that will extend the spirit of the music played in the movie—by musicians Alexander Aisenberg, Hélène Wickett and Dahna Rudin.
